Seven Functions of Whim (Sette opera di misericordia)
A Cinecitta Luce release (in Italia) of the La Sarraz Pictures, Elefant Films production, in colaboration with Lezard Film, together with Rai Cinema. (Worldwide sales: Intramovies, Rome.) Created by Alessandro Borrelli. Co-producer, Serta Burlac. Directed, compiled by Gianluca P Serio, Massimiliano P Serio. With: Roberto Herlitzka, Olimpia Melinte, Ignazio Oliva, Stefano Cassetti, Cosmin Corniciuc. (Italian, Romanian dialogue)A desperate illegal immigrant along with a chilled older widower uncover the significance of social communication in twins Gianluca and Massimiliano P Serio's feature helming debut, "Seven Functions of Whim." A thoroughly crafted yet over-intellectualized drama whose preternatural importance functions just like a leaden shroud, the pic aims for any nuanced and unprejudiced portrait of two social outcasts, but gives not enough information to allow them to earn anything apart from knee-jerk sympathy. Outdoors scattered fest dates, "Seven Functions" is not likely to get much whim from local people either in of their home nations. Limited visual clues help anchor audiences dropped in to the story without background info. Romanian Luminita (Olimpia Melinte, one-note) sucks patients inside a hospital and survives on pilfered food. She sees frail yet prickly Antonio (Roberto Herlitzka) as simple prey, entering his home and taking advantage of it as being a brief haven for any kidnapped baby she intends to trade for work papers. Stockholm syndrome quickly evolves and also the lonely duo tentatively relaxes in quiet innocent companionship. Chapter divisions, marking the eponymous seven functions, provide the sole little bit of irony. Smooth, meditative lensing furthers the somber feel, touched with self-importance.Camera (color, widescreen), Piero Basso editor, Stefano Cravero music, Plus (Minus&Plus) production designer, Giorgio Barullo costume designer, Carola Fenocchio. Examined at Locarno Film Festival (competing), August. 8, 2011. Running time: 98 MIN. Contact the range newsroom at news@variety.com

'Girl Using The Dragon Tattoo' Star: Nude Poster 'Says A Great Deal About Everyone Around You That We Live In'
"The Lady using the Dragon Tattoo" does not hack its distance to theaters before holidays, but that does not mean Christmas will not come early for Lisbeth enthusiasts. After this week's thought of character profiles along with a brief glimpse at Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' "Dragon Tatto" score comes a completely new picture of and interview with Rooney Mara, the youthful lady starring in David Fincher's remake from the Swedish crime tale. Within the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mara discusses her audition process, her topless poster and what many say is the movie's or at best her character's most questionable scene. At that time I had been just super frustrated," Mara told EW about who audition for that role of Lisbeth, performed notoriously within the Swedish films by Noomi Rapace (herself about the verge of the large stateside burglary both "A Virtual DetectiveInch follow up and "Prometheus."). "I had been like, You need to decide. Either you believe Im the lady or else you dont. Theres very little more I'm able to caused by prove it for you. I went inside kind of prepared to fight. I had been pissed. But David sitting me lower and provided this lengthy speech concerning the part. He then handed me his iPad, also it had the pr release onto it. He stated, Im ready to send this out. You've 30 minutes to tell me if you would like the part. Unquestionably a powerful moment in Mara's existence, but likely not probably the most intense of her career. That distinction is more prone to fall to spoiler alert, should you haven't seen the Swedish film or haven't browse the books they are in line with the infamous scene by which Lisbeth is raped as a result of her legal protector. It had been incredibly intense," she stated of shooting the scene. "We made it happen all per week a few days of Valentine's Day, strangely enough. I was working 16 hrs each day, also it really was, really challenging, not only psychologically but physically. Nevertheless its this kind of important scene. We desired to fit everything in we're able to to obtain that right. After an event like this, it's no surprise Rooney holds this type of encouraging attitude for the questionable first "Dragon Tattoo" poster by which she seems topless. "I realize why there is lots of debate," stated Mara. "Individuals have a difficult time with strong women with nudity. However I think had I been doing something incredibly violent about the poster, people wouldnt have experienced an issue with it. That kind of states a great deal about everyone around you that we reside in. Its only a teaser poster. It did that. It taunted people. Brenda Strong Ready For Dallas & Last Season Of Desperate Housewives
By Jolie LashBEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- It was one of the biggest television moments of all time when Bobby Ewing appeared in a shower on Dallas in May 1986, returning to life as the show rolled back an entire season via Pam Ewings dream. And no one is happier than actress Brenda Strong, who plays the legendary TV characters new wife in the upcoming TNT reboot. Oh thank God, thank God [she] woke up and [he] came out of that shower, otherwise I wouldnt have a role, Brenda joked on Sunday night at ABCs Television Critics Association bash at the Beverly Hilton. The Emmy nominated Desperate Housewives actress (for Outstanding Voice-Over), has begun filming the Dallas reboot, playing Ann Ewing, and the project reunites her with Jesse Metcalfe, Eva Longorias DH Season 1 love interest. On Dallas, however, Jesse plays Christopher Ewing, the adopted son of Bobby, and stepson of Brendas character. Hes my new son-in-law and I have to say, Jesse really showed up for the pilot, she told Access Hollywood. His acting has gotten so incredibly detailed and rich and I think people are gonna be surprised about how good he is in this. South Fork, Texas, the central location for Dallas, is a departure for Jesse, who spent Season 1 of DH as Gabrielle Solis sexy gardener-turned-lover and its also a big change for Brenda who played the heard, but not often seen, late Mary Alice Young in DH. I am the new Mrs. Bobby Ewing, I am Ann Ewing and Im not replacing Pam, Im not replacing Victoria Principal. Ive been married to him for seven years, she explained of her new character. I come back as a very strong equal and come from a moneyed family and shes definitely entrenched in Dallas society, but shes grounded and earthy at the same time. Shes kind of like the new Miss Ellie [Ewing]. Dallas is actually in production, but because DH is officially now entering its final season, Brenda is about to get very busy, as creator Marc Cherry revealed at the TCA session on Sunday that the last run for the show would reexamine DHs original story line the tragic suicide of her character. Weve heard that Mary Alice will have more of a presence and I do know that Marc Cherry said whatever our last season is, theres some tension that should bring Mary Alice back more to kind of bookend it, she said. So we have Mary Alice getting us off to a bang at the start and were fishing with a bang as well. The actress said shes filmed several scenes already on Wisteria Lane that look back on themes from the shows debut year, 2004. I actually just worked on the set last week and I had to go back to the day I killed myself, and talk about recapitulation. Its like, Enough, already! Its so depressing, she said of the heavy material. But really, whats great its kind of like Groundhog Day. You can go back to the same day, but once you do that, theres so much nuance emotionally that you can start to reveal and it actually talks about without giving too much away that I wanted to call my friends but then decided not to and so I think its a very emotionally charged subject and Im hoping that I get to see a lot more of the ladies with me. Desperate Housewives ends its Season 8 run in 2012. Dallas premieres next summer on TNT. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. Comic Book World At Big Screen
Get your tickets for our amazing panelsEmpire presents... BIG SCREEN isn't all about the movies and TV, you know. Over the three glorious days we're going to be spending at the O2, we've also invited the cream of British comic book creators to come along and share with you nuggets of wisdom. So come along, one and all, if you're fans of Mark Millar, Adi Granov, Andy Diggle, the legendary Dave Gibbons, Jock, the cult book How To Become A Superhero and, last but not least, the magnificent 2000AD. Here's the line-up so far, with a couple of big names still to confirm:FRIDAY AUGUST 12 - CINEWORLD 8. 11. 15-12. 00. GREATEST. CHARACTER. EVER. In this hilarious panel, a host of comic book creators and industry insiders, led by Empire's Danny Graydon, will somehow, in the space of forty-five minutes, attempt to answer the thorny question: who is the greatest comic book character of all time? Is it Batman? Wolverine? Judge Dredd? Jesse Custer? Rick Grimes? Or someone completely out of leftfield? Full panel line-up TBC, but trust us when we say, you won't want to miss this! 12. 30-13. 15. ON STAGE: DAVE GIBBONS. He was there, three years ago, when Movie-Con was brought forth kicking and screaming into the world. And now that it's back, bigger than ever, as Big Screen, the legendary Dave Gibbons has agreed to return to talk about his long and storied career. For the uninitiated, he's the co-creator of WATCHMEN, along with Alan Moore, and was the artist on Frank Miller's Give Me Liberty. Over the years, he's written Captain America, drawn Green Lantern, worked with Kula Shaker, been a consultant on the WATCHMEN movie, and now has a top-secret project coming up with Mark Millar. And for 45 glorious minutes, you can ask the great man anything. And no, he won't bring Alan Moore. 13. 45-14. 30. ON STAGE: ANDY DIGGLE AND JOCK. They are two of the most exciting talents working in the comic book industry today, a writer-artist team responsible for Judge Dredd spin-off series Lenny Zero, Green Arrow: Year One and The Losers, which was made into a movie last year. TINTIN AND THE GOLDEN FLEECE. Decades before Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson hit upon the simply capital idea of bringing Herge's Adventures of Tintin to the big screen via the magic of mo-cap, a French filmmaker called Jean-Jacques Vierne tackled the bequiffed detective in live-action format. 1961's Tintin And The Golden Fleece, starring the magnificently-named Jean-Pierre Talbot as Tintin alongside a host of actors made up to look like the spitting image of Captain Haddock, Thomson and Thompson et al, is a delightful curio, and we're delighted to present it here, in its full, subtitled glory. Watchmen? Preacher? The Dark Knight Returns? A. N. Other? This star-studded panel - full line-up TBC - will attempt to get to the bottom of things, complete with your help. Their final decision is legally binding. 11. 15-12. 00. ON STAGE: ADI GRANOV. He is the superstar artist who redesigned and revitalized Iron Man, on that character's way to become the biggest hitter in Marvel's movie stable. Since then, he's become one of the best in the business, creating indelible images for the likes of Astonishing X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man and Dark Reign, while he's one of the go-to guys for fantastic cover images. The Bosnia-born, British-based artist will talk about his life and career in this amazing panel. 12. 30-13. 15. 2000AD: A CELEBRATION. Borag Thungg, Earthlets! If you're a comic book fan, then you won't want to miss this sensational panel celebrating the life, times and apparently endless progs of the most influential comic of all time: 2000 AD. The comic that launched the careers of (take a deep breath) John Wagner, Alan Moore, Pat Mills, Garth Ennis, Mark Millar, John Higgins, Dave Gibbons, Carlos Ezquerra, Jock, Dan Abnett, Frank Quitely, Grant Morrison, Peter Milligan, Kevin O'Neill, Brian Bolland, Simon Bisley, Neil Gaiman, Jamie Hewlett, Andy Diggle and John Smith, it's an absolute institution. Appearing at BIG SCREEN to celebrate that institution, discuss its memorable past and glorious future, will be current 2000AD editor, MATT SMITH and ROBBIE MORRISON, creator of Nikolai Dante. Oh, and there'll be more names to come, including a few surprise guests... Don't miss it, or Tharg will not be pleased. 13. 45-14. 30. ON STAGE: MARK MILLAR. He is the genius who revamped The Avengers as The Ultimate, reimagined Superman as the Red Son, gave Spider-Man a kick up the jacksie and, with his penchant for slick dialogue, outrageous violence and memorable characters, has become arguably the hottest writer in the business. He is, of course, the funny, provocative and utterly brilliant Mark Millar, the Scottish writer whose creations, from Wanted to Kick-Ass and the forthcoming Nemesis, have blazed a trail onto the big screen. He'll be coming to the O2 to sit down with us and talk about all things Millarworld. And, knowing Mark, a lot more besides. 15. 00-17. 00. 30 MINUTES OR LESS. It's not based on a comic book, but it stars Danny McBride, Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari and is from the director of Zombieland, Ruben Fleischer. So it shouldn't matter too much. Buy Single Session Tickets Buy Complete Saturday Pass SUNDAY AUGUST 14 - CINEWORLD 8. 11. 15-12. 00. HOW TO BECOME A SUPERHERO. Ever wanted to become a caped crimefighter, but didn't know how to go about it? Not sure how to design a costume, or come up with a decent crimefighting name or - worse yet - how to develop incredible powers? And just what the hell do you do if you're faced with a supervillain so heinous he'll heat your wotsits up to 26,000 degrees Celsius? In 1992, Mark Leigh and Mike Lepine - with assistance from brilliant comic book artist Steve Dillon [Preacher] - wrote HOW TO BECOME A SUPERHERO, the ultimate handbook for wannabe superheroes, a hilarious and helpful tip-filled guide filled with inspired and surreal answers to simply everything under the super-sun. Jesse Eisenberg would be the Double for Richard Ayoade
Jesse Eisenberg has arrived the (dual) lead role in Richard Ayoade's indie undertake Fyodor Dostoyevsky's The Double.Ayoade was most likely most widely known being an actor within the IT Crowd (so that as an overall total Film writer, obviously) before his astonishing directorial debut Submarine, which showed up captured. His adaptation of Joe Dunthorne's novel was sincere, stylish and hugely awesome, and it is fascinating that he's now turning his focus on among the great novellas of Russian literature. The Double concerns a guy whose existence starts to break apart whenever a doppelgänger of themself gets to his office and begins doing his existence much better than he is doing, and there's a 'fantastic' tension running throughout (ie could it be all within the man's imagination?)This project sounds doubly exciting considering the casting, as Eisenberg ought to be an ideal match for that character's nervy sensibilities, in addition to Ayoade's offbeat feeling of humour. The Vulture are convinced that revealed what is the news does not go onto elaborate on any particulars, but we can not wait to discover how Ayoade will tackle the storyline.Eisenberg is a busy chap recently: you will see him in half an hour Or Less, Free Samples, Predisposed and Woodsy Allen's The Bop Decameron prior to the Double.

Discover the Female-Centric Comedy Elizabeth Banks Authored
Sure, 'Bridesmaids' might have made $165 million in the box office (which is a good example to really make it no. 1 female-driven R-ranked comedy ever), but actress Elizabeth Banks was near to beating these phones the punch -- kind of. The star from the approaching comedy 'Our Idiot Brother' lately sitting lower with NYMag, and talked about the feminine-centric, wedding-related flick she attempted writing eight years back, known as 'What About Barb?' which incorporated its bathroom scene: [It had been] in regards to a bride whose crazy relative Barb needs upon her as her bridesmaid. There is a scatalogical scene within the ladies' room within the script, but "the studio exces were really like, 'People don't wish to see women doing that.' And That I was like, 'I'm writing from experience! Put forth a golf club and you've got to hold back inside a huge line, so people double up. And, yes, you believe you are only likely to take some pee, but sometimes some poops emerge. " It never got made. States Banks "We never got the pooping scene as right because they first got it in 'Bridesmaids.'" Some large stars avoid drafting their very own story or script, you will find some which have been effective in internet marketing (Jon Favreau, Justin Theroux, Ben Stiller). Banks certainly holds her very own in comedies, getting starred in films like 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' and 'Zack and Miri Create a Porno,' who knows if her comedy abilities can translate to writing. In either case, if 'What About Barb?' was even while half as funny as 'Bridesmaids,' only then do we would like to observe that movie get made. To see the entire profile, mind on to NYMag.
